Should I buy a car that was smoked in?

I have been on the hunt for a car and finally found one in my budget with the mileage and fuel economy I want that is also pretty... I had to ditch my Honda CRZ because it doesnt have backseats and I am 6 months pregnant! Anywho the new car is a Honda InSIGHT and the only issue is that when I opened the door a strong cigarette smell poured out of the car. it has been detailed already but still reeks of smoke. is this harmful for my baby??? should I pass on the car?!?! My family and the dealership think I am overreacting... but am I? what about SIDS???

Open cans of coffee in the car and leave I️t sealed for a day or two... the coffee grounds will absorb the smell.

Personally I would pass. My asthma acts up around smoke smell and I can always tell if a vehicle has been smoked in - no matter how much it's been cleaned.

I would buy it but my husband is a smoker and that doesn't bother me. He won't smoke in the car with our son but he will be smoking in it when he isn't in it. That I know.

My husband and I got a free dresser once that smelled like smoke. We tried the coffee grounds thing. It helped but didn't take the smell completely out. We tried baking soda and a few other things. Eventually the smoke smell dissipated but it took a few months. They say the best thing you can do is leave it outside in the open air but I'm not sure how you could do that with a car. Having the windows down as much as possible may help along with some other remedies. I would think it would eventually get better but Idk how you can ever fully get the smell out when a car is always closed up 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've said no to cars for this same reason. So has my mom. I wouldn't say you're overreacting.

I️ refuse to buy a smokers car. When I️ was looking for my current car, I️ found a perfect one, low mileage, great shape, right price, but refused to buy it because it smelled like smoke. To me it isn’t worth it. If I️ am spending a significant amount of money on a car, I️ don’t want to settle. I’m sure you can find another car that you like just as much, that wasn’t a smokers car.

place pans of plain charcoal under the seats and in the floor boards. it absorbs smells

I'm sensitive to smoke and can never get the smell fully out of fabric. I personally wouldn't do it if I could smell the smoke at all.

Keep windows down until it airs out... we had a Dodge Challenger that the fuel pump was leaking and it’s located in the back seat so the whole car smelled like gas BAD we kept the windows down a little bit for a few days and the smell went away because I am pregnant too and couldn’t use it with the gas smell but it did go away kee windows down a little all day and night as long as the windows aren’t down enough for someone to stick their hands into id day go for it
