Do you normally approach someone you like/find attractive or do you wait in hopes that they talk to you?

I like someone but I do not want to make the first move. I have never made the first move. I’m too prideful. Any interesting stories you’ve had if you have made the first move? Any awkward moments? Any advice?

When I first met my boyfriend we worked together. He used to be really shy, so I would constantly talk to him trying to get him to realize I liked him. Well, one day he was talking about beach volleyball and how much he loved playing, but didn't have many people to play with him. So, I lied and said that I loved playing beach volleyball too and if he wanted we could go together. He agreed and was pretty excited. I immediately got super nervous because I have only played volleyball in middle school and was absolutely awful. Long story short, I sucked so bad and by the end of the date my arms were swollen to double the size they usually are and they were black and blue. We still look back and laugh. It's pretty embarrassing but he thinks it's cute that I lied, so I could hangout with him.
