Harassed while shopping with a stroller 😕

Yesterday I went shopping with my husband and sister. My husband took my daughter to change her diaper while me and my sister walked into Sephora with her empty stroller.

As we were shopping around, I felt like the staff was watching me. It became painfully obvious after the 10 staff member asked us if we needed help. They literally popped up into every aisle we were in to ask if we needed help. They have earpieces so they were all communicating together. I guess it looks suspicious to walk about with an empty stroller 🤷🏻‍♀️ We could even hear them saying things like “as long as somebody is in their area at all times” and other phrases. One worker would say something and then they would all look in our direction.

My husband walked into the store after changing my daughters diaper and one of the workers said into their earpiece “oh, there’s her baby” and all the staff looked at us.

It was sooo uncomfortable and ruined my shopping trip. I felt embarrassed that they were all talking about me and watching me. If I didn’t have a coupon, I would have walked out without buying anything. I wanted to shop around for Christmas gifts but the staff made me feel shitty so I just grabbed my 2 necessities, paid and left.

I understand that they probably have a theft problem but I feel like there’s a way to watch people without harassing them every 30 seconds and letting the customers hear staff talk about them.

It was just the shittiest experience and makes me never want to shop with a stroller again. I’ve been shopping at Sephora for years and I spend lots of money there. This was the first time something like this has happened to me. It sucked 😞

Anyone else experience being profiled for shopping with a stroller? Or anyone work in retail and have some insight? I get that loss prevention is a big concern for companies but is this the only way to do it? Share your thoughts and experiences please.

There’s got to be a way for them to monitor situations without making customers feel like criminals for no reason! 😞
