Transitional Leave???
So my husband recently began the Army discharge process. He's being chaptered for APFT failure. From what we've heard, where we're stationed, this is an honorable discharge since the altitude is so high. Additionally, aside from the fact that he sucks at running, he's been a good soldier and he's good at his job, so we do expect an honorable, but we have yet to receive actual orders. Already, we are putting great thought into how to make our transition back to civilian life as smooth as possible, and until today, I thought transitional leave would be a part of that. But one of my husband's friends/co-workers told him today that transitional leave is only for people who are retiring/at the end of their contract--that it's not an option if you're being chaptered... is this true? My husband has been serving around 4 years now, but his contract is for 6. He has around 40 leave days saved up. If he can't take transitional leave, would his best option be to sell them? This year has been very difficult for us financially, with a number of unforeseen (major) expenses, and I'm worried that without the option to take transitional leave, we're kind of being set up for failure, since we don't have as much in our savings account as we otherwise might have and I don't know how much time we still have here. Any answers/advice? TBH, I'm fucking terrified of this entire process.
