Travel to Mexico?

I just found out I'm pregnant!! Yayyy!! but the timing is not perfect. My best friend is getting married in Cancun in June. I am a bridesmaid and didn't know if the risk of Zika is still a threat?? I will be around 6 months along. Definitely will ask my Dr at my appt. but does anyone know for sure?

it will always be a threat. there is no way the government can guarantee that there are NO mosquitos carrying the virus.

It was a threat long before the media blew it up and will always be a threat..... talk to your dr, do research about the specific area your traveling to, and wear a safe bug repellent and continuously apply it, when possible keep as much of your skin covered as possible (I know it’s summer months and will be hot as hell!! Especially being 6mo pregnant, but that’s where the big repellent comes in handy) (and if your about naturals like I am there are a couple different essential oils that are good for repelling bugs and mosquitoes)

We were supposed to go to Mexico next week but just found out I was pregnant last week so we cancelled. It was a disappointing decision but Zika is still a threat in Mexico. Only one in five people show symptoms so you could get it and not even know. It can cause brain deformities if a pregnant woman contracts the virus so we didn’t want to risk it. Also, it can be spread by sexual contact so condoms are recommended for six months after traveling.

I’m going though fertility treatments and we have to sign a waiver not to travel to Zola affected destinations. Honestly I would not risk the health of my child for a wedding.

It is definitely a risk in Cancun. My suggestion is don’t go. It’s not worth it. Your friend should understand, and chances are you will not be the only wedding guest dropping out because of Zika. To be sure though, talk to your doctor about it and then you can explain to your friend that your doctor said no.

I was super paranoid about Zika virus.  we were intending to go to Mexico for our honeymoon but I did my research and it can be in the female system or up to 6 months, and in the male system for up to a year. we wanted to start our family after the honeymoon. But I didn't want to risk us getting it and having to wait.  everyone said I was over reacting and to just do it. but I felt it wasn't for us.  we're still going on a honeymoon to Vegas instead.  I do know women who went to Mexico pregnant and had healthy babies. it was just my decision to not.

Yes, all of Mexico has known Zika. You can look at the CDC website they give information on it. I would talk to your doctor and see what they suggest.
