FTM 👧👶🤔 What is/was your living situation with your first child? Do you wish it were different?

Question

Here’s mine. My husband and I have been together for 7 years, married for almost two and planned for this baby. We live in a two bedroom townhome with my husbands brother and his fiancé.
Until we finish saving for our own place, we will be staying here.
Everyone in my family has their own opinions mostly thinking that we should be in our own house no matter the size because of the baby.
Well, my husband and I have enough money saved for a down payment for a basic house, but we would rather save a little longer to have a house we will stay in for at least a decade.
Are we ever fully prepared for the transition to having a baby in the house no matter our current situation and circumstances?
I’m just saying, I’m pretty content here until baby girl is about 6 months which will be this coming December.

We don’t own a home, but we live in our own 2 bed 1 bath apartment and I think it’s going to be perfect for us. It’s a big enough apartment that we have plenty of room for all baby’s stuff and I’m so glad we have the extra bedroom as his nursery. We also have our washer and dryer in our apartment which I feel is important because I wouldn’t want to be having to go back and forth to a laundry mat or even a shared apartment laundry space with a newborn.

We lived in a 600 sq ft house. Basically one big room with a bathroom closed off. While I don’t think having a small space is a problem, you might want to consider your own place for privacy and comfort. I spent my maternity leave in short shorts and a nursing bra but there’s no way I would have been comfortable dealing with all that comes with a new baby, postpartum body, and lack of sleep had I been living with anyone other than my husband. I had a friend that lived with her in laws when she brought home her second because they were in the middle of building a house, and she regretted not having her own space. She felt like she couldn’t get comfortable because she wasn’t in her own space and always had other people around.

My pregnancy was a surprise and I’m living with my fiancé at his parents house in the basement. I’m only 5 weeks but we told his mom and we’ve been looking for apartments but she is perfectly fine letting her grandbaby live with her lol 
I think it’s fine as long as the other party doesn’t have a problem with it.

I think you’re fine!! Definitely better to keep saving for a better house that will suit your family longer. 
We are in a similar situation, renting out 1/2 of a duplex from my grandparents who live in the other half. We wanted more than anything to be in our own place before our baby came and there just was no way to make it possible. Our main goal is to be in our own place by the time baby is 1!

My SO and I live in a one bedroom and will be here until the baby is about 6 weeks. But he has to go back overseas so me and the baby will be moving in with my sister and her husband. I’ve had people throw opinions at me—they think I should stay in my own space so I’m not intruding on anyone else’s. But my sister and her husband are super supportive and honestly as a FTM too, I’ll take any support I can get!

I honestly think it's better to be in your own space bc crying babies bother people and the last thing you want to deal with when you are exhausted is more people. my wife and I had our son Nov 12th 2016, we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment, married for 2 years, together for 7 years total.

Do whatever feels right for you!  My SO and I have been together for 6 years and we have never lived together (by choice).  We're expecting this spring and people keep asking what our living arrangements are going to be but we have no intention of changing the current set up.  I just expect he'll spend more time at my place in the future and in the end, our LO will have 2 houses to inherit.

If you’re planning on buying, I would say the sooner the better because it’s predicted prices are going to go up. If you’re not talking to a Realtor yet, I suggest you should. You never know what you can find and if you’re willing to do some minor updates you might find something reasonable

We were 18 and renting a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath house with our first. I was happy with it, wouldn't change it. Looking back, I'm happy we had our own space to bond as a family.
