Negotiating maternity leave 😬

Allison

Say a prayer and send good vibes! Hopefully today will finally be the day I negotiate my maternity leave with my boss. She's been putting it off for months and basically won't acknowledge that I'm pregnant. I have a note from my midwife that I'm not allowed to work more than 40 hours a week and she's losing her mind over that-- though luckily smart enough to know she can't try to make me break that rule!

I'm the first person at our little nonprofit to ever need maternity leave, so there is no policy in place. This could work to my advantage, but I'm expecting that she'll offer me the legal minimum and expect me to be thankful. Most maternity leave laws don't apply to us because we have fewer than 50 employees. All I get is legal protection against being fired because I'm pregnant. Other than that and any doctors' notes, I'm on my own to create a leave situation that works for me.

I don't want to come back until baby is 3 months old. I'm 100% firm on that. We'll see what she says.

Might go full-force preggo rage. But trying to stay calm and remember-- I get a beautiful baby in a few months and that's the most important thing!

So, say a prayer and send good vibes. Thanks for reading my rant.
