My BC Experience
As a 17-year old in high school, I have my whole life ahead of me. In my situation, I planned to go to college, medical school, get a job, then have a baby. So when my boyfriend and I decided to become more sexually active, I took it upon myself to ahead to my school’s health center.
I wish other schools had health centers that offer what my school has: mental health counseling, free condoms, free birth control methods, free tests, and so much more—all until you’re 26 years old. I was set with an educator who taught me about the different forms of birth control. I learned about the ring, the pill, the patch, and the shot. I decided to go with the pill.
Luckily for me, my period started on a Sunday. My boyfriend and I had sex the week before but with a condom, and we made sure he pulled out too.
But oh my god, the cramps during the first month and the spotting was terrible. I felt hella crusty. It went away after the first month, but the cramps were still there but not as bad. Now, my cramps are mild and don’t bother me. They used to cause me so much pain that I had to go home from school.
We no longer use the pull-out method + condom and just use my pill + condom when he decides to finish in me. We tried without a condom and it just gave me really bad anxiety and I began to doubt myself and my ethic on taking my pill. Luckily, my period arrived! I’m really anal about taking my pills on time.
Maybe this will help some others in high school who are in the same position I am and are worried about having sex while on birth control methods. However, abstinence is the 100% preventer for pregnancy but idk I like sex so LMAO but whatever methods make you comfortable is what works best for you, as long as it’s safe. But god, please don’t rely on only the pull-out method.
