I “dated” this guy on and off for two years (7th & 8th grade) and he completely destroyed my life.. like that sounds dramatic, but I had to move schools when I got to high school because the bullying (from him, his step sister, and my ex bff) had gotten so extreme that I attempted suicide a couple times, was starving myself, and self harming all the time- even at school. 
so needless to say, we didn’t remain friends at all. now i’ve been graduated from hs for 2 years and every one of them reached out and apologized. we’re not “friends” but we’re civil now and i’m thankful that they reached out. it just took a lot of time for all the dust to settle.

im still friends with mine. he was the one that dumped me but it was a mutual split but its not like he did anything to hurt me. i had to set boundaries awhile back. i care about him but i never want to be with him again. sometimes you make a mistake of getting into a relationship with someone who was only supposed to be a friend. if he disrespected you then id say cut him lose. cant be friends with someone whos hurt you

My ex gf and I started dating in 8th grade. Had a VERY messy breakup in 12th grade. 
2 years after our breakup, i sent her this long (like 2 paragraph) message over Facebook. Just apologizing for all the bitchy and shitty stuff I did while we were together. Facebook marked that she had read it - but she never replied. 
Until another 2 years later. (4 years total of not talking). She replied to it saying “I’m sorry too. Can we start over??” And I said that I would love to, and I offered to buy her coffee or tea or something so we went out the next week for tea and we caught up on everything we had missed in each others lives. 
We aren’t BFF’s now or anything. But we are friendly. We text pretty regularly. Hang out on occasion. I know she still has some bitterness towards me (we had a talk about it), and it’s understandable tbh lol and I’m not going to push her to be closer friends. I’m just happy to have her back in my life, she was one of my best friends growing up and I kind of hate that we ever started dating to begin with because it ruined that friendship. So having her back to any degree is fine with me. 
We’ve managed to stay friends and not have any fights for 2 years. 🙌

Idk if you can call us “friends.” Were friendLY but we aren’t really a part of each others lives. Every now and then (like once or twice a year) I hear from him through text or fb message just to catch up but we have 2 completely different lives now, he has a baby with another girl. We occasionally like each others posts and shares on fb lol but that’s about it. We dated for 4 years and have been apart for 3.

I dated my ex off and on for 3 years. We stayed friends after each break-up, but it was hard to get over each other when we were still talking all the time and hanging out occasionally. After our final breakup, we were friends for about 2 years, and I eventually got over him, but I knew he still had feelings for me, so I cut off contact with him when I got into a new relationship.
