planned c section better than emergency?

I need some words of wisdom from you lovely ladies. I had a c section in 2014 that wasn't an emergency per se but wasn't planned. I just wasn't dilating. I don't know why but i felt everything, the cutting and all. it was awful. 
I did therapy to get over the trauma and did hypnobabies to get ready for my VBAC last year. well something went horribly wrong - I was 9cm and pushing when the heart rate plummeted. I was rushed to the OR and put out for surgery but my baby ddint make it. it was the most horrible thing ive ever endured. 
now pregnant again , 17 weeks. terrified,  out if my mind. is it possible to have a pain free c section? I need some advice of how to prepare.

Your first, did you have an epidural before the csection? If so, a spinal block will be much stronger and will be a pain free csection

I had a scheduled C and had a spinal.  They checked me for feeling before they started the procedure.  I could not feel anything for hours so I would think your epidural was just not strong enough.

I had a c-section and loved it. it was pain free, gentle recovery, and not traumatizing at all. 
it was also planned. I just scheduled another one for baby 2.

My planned csection didn't hurt during the process and was a very manageable pain afterwards- I was walking the next day as soon as the catheter was removed, and though I was sore I was definitely okay with the help of medicine. Key is to take that medicine when they offer it- don't "be a hero", if it hurts take the medicine. When you go home take the medicine. Don't push yourself. It will all be okay. My first/only was planned, I was terrified, but the whole thing was over in 30 minutes and I was so relieved and it seemed seamless. When going in I figured I'd want a vbac in the future, now I know I'm definitely sticking to cesareans.

I felt everything with my first as well. My second was a breeze and painless. My 3rd, meh, but nothing compared to the operative pain during my first.

I'm so sorry that happened to you! I can't imagine how much shock that put you into feeling your c section! 😣 that's definitely not normal, though I've heard of a few cases here and there where if it was an emergency and an epidural was put in earlier that didn't take completely or they missed the correct spot and it numbed some random spot like your foot but nowhere else, it can happen. :(

i have had 4 c sections and 4 pain free c sections my last one i left the hospitsl in pre ptegnancy button up jeans. happy to answer any questions

My situation is very similar. I’m due at the end of April and trying to decide between vbac or planned c section.. there’s pros and cons to both. I just hope I make the right decision 😓

I am so sorry that happened to you. Thank you for sharing. I'm following this post because I am 3 days postpartum after almost the same thing happening. We were fully dilated and pushing and her heart rate / oxygen was plummeting because of the umbilical cord being wrapped too tightly. she is healthy and here.. I am just in so much pain and don't have hardly any research on C-sections or recovery options or what will happen to my body Etc. Prayers of strength, healing and comfort to you Mama ❤

I had the same situation... csection that wasn’t an emergency but not planned and felt EVERYTHING.  My OB afterwards hinted the shunt for the epidural was not placed correctly.
 
Second time around, if I plan a csection I am going to ensure I am NUMB for a bit before they start.  She also now made a note that if I feel them pulling me open to switch to a more powerful drug (it will knock me out).
