Is it wrong to use a gift card you received at your baby shower for groceries, or other household items?

Ca

So I recently just had a baby shower and I received a target gift card from one of my mothers friends.

I always get my groceries at target, so while I was there I bought a pack of diapers & about a weeks worth of groceries.

When I sent the thank you notes out, I sent one to Jenny (let’s call her that).

I said, “Jenny, thank you so much for your generous gift, it helped me buy groceries & diapers for the week”.

She called me later that week and said “I did not give you that gift card for YOU. I gave it to you for child. You didn’t deserve it. I will never give to you again”. And hung up.

Now, I’m embarrassed to even speak to my mom about how her friend acted, so I wanted to ask y’all.

Were her actions ok?

Should you use a shower gift card for things that aren’t specifically for your baby?

Or is it ok to use for groceries/diapers/household stuff?

Edit**** I told her what I used the gift card for because my mom always taught me it was a respect thing, and I guess I thought that still applied here.
