Is Masturbation a Sin?

I would love if you guys could comment why or why not. I'm really interested on discovering this for myself and seeing what others think about the subject

I’ve said this before, so I’m sorry if it seems repetitive. Very few actions are sin and masturbation is not one of them. HOWEVER, on saying this, what is important is the heart of a person and the heart of someone during masturbation is almost always far from God. There are specific cases such as a husband who is away for business, feeling tempted, texts his wife for pictures, and then goes from there, but for 99.9% of the time, yes it would be sin. The reason is that masturbation almost needs lust to be complete and for any not married, it is impossible to sexually desire someone in a righteous and holy way. Even for the married person, it would have to be their spouse alone, but it isn’t. And some may say they don’t need to lust, but even if a lustful thought crosses one’s mind for a nanosecond, they have been polluted with the sin of adultery. This isn’t a good scenario at all. There is also the case that this doesn’t glorify God in the slightest and also that it deprives one of a possible increase of dependence on God. Both are serious problems that can cause serious spiritual issues for the person’s general walk. For spiritual stuff, everything always spills into everything. So to summarize, masturbation is not sin, but that doesn’t mean it’s good. It’s very, very bad. Just stay away from it entirely. That’ll always be the best option.

From a Christian standpoint, I completely agree with Justin’s comment. Biblically it says that pornography is a sin as well as lustful thoughts. Now, if you can masturbate without thinking of any of that at all then you’re good but that’s highly doubtful just because of human nature. But, in saying that, I think that if you are married and just for example, in a long distance situation for whatever the reason and maybe decided to like video chat and masturbate together then that would be fine. 
There tends to be lots of gray areas in life because there’s no way the Bible could literally list out everything that is a sin. So I always tell people to pray about it and just do what you feel aligns with Gods word and what you feel is right. Usually though if you have to ask, it’s probably smart to avoid.
