Autism?

Any parents on here with kids diagnosed with something on the spectrum?

Just today my 4 year olds teacher said my daughter was exhibiting a behaviour that is on the spectrum- during carpet time she sometimes stares at the ceiling and flaps her hands. I ask if there were any other observations, any unusual behaviour or learning challenges, or any social issues. Her teacher says no, just the issue on the carpet. When the teacher calls her to refocus, she is able to.

At home, sometimes she sits on the couch and bounces against the back repeatedly and flaps her arms. She says it’s her ‘excercise’ and will stop if we ask her too. We mentioned this to her doctor a few years ago and he wasn’t concerned. She does not show any other unusual behaviour that I’ve noticed. She’s very social, communicates well, plays well independently and with others. She is a bit timid with some physical activity and doesn’t like loud noises like fireworks - but I also hated fireworks until I was older so I feel like that’s normal. I’m not sure if I should be concerned by her behaviour at school or just wait to see if anything else develops. We do have Autism in the family (my sister has Aspergers and my nephew has a pretty high functioning autism) and I really don’t see any signs in my daughter except this occasional hand flapping. All thoughts on this appreciated, especially from parents with children diagnosed with something on the spectrum.
