Nitrous oxide?!?

Has anyone tried it? I’m excited to do something new. I am 38 weeks and am happy to not have to get a epidural.. but if the pain is too crazy I will switch over. Thoughts???

I was told by a nurse it isn’t as strong as the kind used at dentist offices since they need you conscious enough to function. Reading stories in the community it does little to nothing as far as pain management.

I will let you know lol.. It’s not meant to knock you out. Itsmeant to relax you and make the process doable. Obviously if it gets too crazy I will be getting the epidural. I feel like I can do it since I got to 7 cms before getting the shot.

im terrified and I don't want to get an epidural either! and before picking nitrous oxide make sure that's a pain relief option for labor at your hospital. some places don't do it.
but I've read stories and the majority say it was about just enough relief to get by and even if it's not enough you can always choose to get the epidural later on. so Im going to give it a go!! we're woman and we're strong!! please if you try it keep me updated on how it went. sorry I couldn't be more help.

One of the midwives that I see told me it usually goes one of three ways: it works for decreasing pain, it doesn’t decrease pain really but gives you a routine to focus on, or it doesn’t do anything. I used it during my recent labor and I was mostly a combination of the last two. I was afraid to go without it because it gave me a routine to do with each contraction but I didn’t really feel like my pain was any less, particularly once I was in active labor.
