Is it ok to be around cats while preggo??

I know your not supposed to be around the litter box at all because of the bacteria in the feces and all but is it ok to be around and touch the actual cat?? I'm 24 weeks with my rainbow baby, Just being cautious So no rude snarky comments.

You can actually change the litter if you wear gloves since taxoplasmosis (spelling?) is contracted through contact, ie touching the dirty litter. My Aunt didn't have anyone to help since her bf worked out of town while she was pregnant and the Dr ok'd just being responsible while cleaning. Be sure to wash your veggies, too, for that matter.

You can definitely eat around the cat itself. Feel free to pet as much as you want. My cats have been literally babysitting often during my pregnancy. They love my belly and the baby.

It's definitely OK to be around cats and, in my opinion, to clean the litter box. Just make sure you wash your hands when you're done or wear gloves. It's especially OK to clean the litter box if they're indoor cats.

It’s only dangerous if the cat has toxoplasmosis. Not all cats have it or are carriers so if your cat (or the cat you’re around) has had all its shots and sees a vet regularly chances are it doesn’t have it and it’s safe to be around and change the litter box no problem.

If you've had the same cat for a long time there's a chance that anything that could potentially harm you, you're already immune to. If it's a new cat then stay away from the litter tray when it is being cleaned/disturbed and don't let the cat scratch you at all. My cat walks all over my belly, pretty sure she is asserting dominance over her furless brother already lol.
