Do you expect someone who doesn't have a job to pay for their own food?

Sa

I read some story yesterday about how the father of this girl's friend refused to pay for her food, really to extreme lengths, while they were out eating. Obviously this story is a little different from the question I'm posing because it seems obvious to me that if you are able to pay for your child's friend's food then you should, especially if the other parent has done the same for your child. But in terms of adult or adolescent friendships where it is possible to have a job, should the jobless be taken care of? Like, if you and your friends went out to eat and one of your friends doesn't have a job, should they pay for their own food? Would you pick up their tab? Let's say the person isn't abusing this etiquette and buying any super expensive things.
