Taking Baby on Vacation
I want to first preface this with the fact that we discussed this extensively before hand. Edit: Also, we legitimately cannot budget to board the dog, unfortunately, but thank you for the suggestion.
My parents invited us to go on vacation this June in Arkansas, we live on the west coast. Originally we were not planning to go at all because we couldn't figure out what to do with our dog, but then my partner suggested that maybe our daughter (11 months old) and I should go without him and fly.
So I begin the discussion process with my mother, who offered to pay my ticket round trip. It was originally only meant to be 5 days, but it was cheaper for me to stay with my family for 2 weeks instead.
He discussed with me his concerns, that he would miss her, that she would be grown up quite a bit after then, and that two weeks seemed too long, but he pushed that it was ultimately my decision.
I decided to go, mainly because I would get to see some family members I haven't in a very long while, people who I love dearly who haven't met my daughter yet.
Well, that desicion ended our relationship. My mother has already paid for the tickets, and we leave next Tuesday. He believes that what I will be doing will ruin their bond as father and daughter, and that because of that he no longer feels like she is his kid. He practically wants nothing to do with her now, or me.
I didn't foresee that my decision would hurt him so badly, but it has.
He found one article that mentioned a child being taken away from a primary caregiver for certain periods of time leaves permanent psychological damage on the infant. He agrees that it will, and says that my decision is unforgivable, especially because I didn't research this before making it.
I have been searching for other sources, even the source that he found, but so far I have come up empty handed.
I really am just looking for an outside perspective on this situation, and am also curious if taking an infant on a two week vacation without the dad will cause permanent psychological damage and ruin their bond.
Thanks for reading.
