Should drunk people have to pay for NHS services should they require it? READ FIRST

Question

This sort of ties in to my previous question in CC regarding health tourism.  If a person ends up so drunk or influenced by illegal drugs that they require treatment from the NHS, should they have to pay for that treatment they received? Regardless of whether they are a British tax payer or not.

By that logic, people should be made to pay for other injuries that are entirely their fault, even if it was accidental.

No because our health industry isn’t here to discriminate. 
You aren’t less worthy of medical attention just because you got drug.

If they are tax-paying citizens haven’t they already paid for their medical care? 
If you’re an American and have to be treated because you’re drunk should they double charge you? 
What about other preventable medical care that could be due to the actions of the patient? If you get a sports injury should you have to pay? If you have gastrointestinal issues and the doctors find you’ve not always ate 100% healthy should you have to pay?

That would only open the door to a lot of problems, discrimination, and deaths. Not a good idea at all

Absolutely not, I pay taxes and drinking is legal. What if I’m drunk and someone hits me with their car. What if someone chooses to go rock climbing and falls off a cliff, should they have to pay?

No, you either want universal healthcare or you don’t.

No. A public health system is a public health system and we don't see it as a way to rip money off of people.

I am not too familiar with the NHS so pardon my ignorance but doesn’t everyone have to pay for any medical care they receive?

Yes. It makes no sense why you wouldnt financially penalize a drunk person who may put others at risk. Of course, not all drunk people, have a good time. But if alchohol leads to violence or is a strong coping mechanism, get help.
