I'm writing a book...
This is what it looks like so far...
Opinions?
The sun was just starting to set, it was beautiful. The sky was filled with so many colors, and this time the clouds really did have that silver-lining everyone talks about; in more ways than one. Tomorrow was our first day of spring break and also the day Bryn, dad, and I were all heading to the beach. It was just what I needed.
It was just approaching eight o’clock, dad was making his famous chicken alfredo for dinner while Bryn and I were cozy on the couch talking about all of the things awaiting us at the beach. She being the pretty one and I being the “nerd,” our ideas of fun were completely different. I was planning to read a book by the ocean and listen to the crashing sound of the waves, and she was planning to make all the boys fall in-love.
Dinner was done and we all gathered around the table. Bryn asked dad if she could head over to Derek’s for a few hours after dinner, dad agreed. We all sat laughing and talking about our day. When dinner was over, Bryn and I cleaned up the kitchen. It was about 9:15 when we finished and Bryn went for the door.
Dad stopped her with a “Be home no later than 10:30, we’re leaving early in the morning.”
Bryn replied, “Okay dad.”
As Bryn left I said “You know she won’t be home till about 11:00 right?”
Dad chuckled and said, “I know.”
Knowing dad would be up waiting for her to come home, I made him some coffee and we sat and talked for about an hour. It was around 10:30 when I went upstairs to my room. I fell asleep reading Moby Dick.
It was morning, and the sun was already shining so bright. I went downstairs, and dad had fallen asleep in his chair. I decided I’d let him rest awhile, and went back upstairs. Stopping by Bryn’s room, I opened her door. Usually I’d find her passed out, drooling on her pillow; only this time.. Her bed was completely empty. Before I even shut her door, dad was behind me.
“Francesca, Bryn never came home... I waited up all night, I didn’t even realize I had fallen asleep. I figured she’d be home by now, but seeing the look on your face when you saw me made me realize I was wrong.” Dad said in a worried tone.
“I’ll try calling Derek she may have stayed over there” I replied.
I immediately went to my room and first tried Derek, he answered sleepily.
Derek answered,
“Hello, Bryn why are you calling me at seven in the morning?”
“Derek, This isn’t Bryn. It Francesca, and you already answered my first question… What time did Bryn leave your house last night?”
“Uh, I don’t know about 10. We got into an argument and she left. Why? She didn’t come home?”
“Obviously not Derek, or I wouldn’t have a need to call you.”
“Jeez, okay. Well I’m gonna try to call her. I’ll let you know if I talk to her. Bye.”
“Bye Derek.”
As I hung up, I started to feel sick… Why didn’t she come home? Is she okay? I wish I had the answers to these questions…
I ran downstairs to the living room where dad was sitting. You could see how worried he was. I knew I had to tell him she wasn’t at Derek's, but I didn’t want to…
“Dad I just spoke to Derek, and he said she left last night…”
Dad didn’t say anything. I could see the worry in his eyes.
I decided to speak again, “I’m going to try Alison. Maybe she’s talked to her.”
Again, dad said nothing. I went and sat on the patio and called Alison.
Alison answered,
“Hello.”
“Hey Alison have you heard from Bryn?”
“Yeah, she called me last night. She was pretty upset about her and Derek’s argument. I told her maybe she’d meet a hot guy at the beach, and forget all about Derek.”
“Did she say where she was, or where she was going?”
“Yeah, she said she was going home.”
“She never did. If you hear from her, will you please let me know?”
“Yeah. I hope she comes home. Bye.”
“Bye.”
That was it. Derek and Alison were the only people that she could’ve possibly talked to… I absolutely dreaded telling dad what Alison said, but I had to. I made my way down the stairs yet again. It seemed like an eternity before I reached the bottom…
“Dad, I just got off the phone with Alison. She said when she spoke to Francesca last night she was coming home.” Dad’s face turned red…
“I should’ve never let her leave last night. This is all my fault!”
“Dad don’t say that… You didn’t know she wouldn’t come home. Maybe she just needs to clear her head.”
Dad said just got up, and said nothing…
