Can The State Push Child Support?

Question

So, my boyfriend and I had our daughter. We don't live together and obviously not married. I do receive Food Stamps and Medical Card through Job and Family Services. We are very happy, plan on eventually moving in together and getting married, but not right now. I don't want to make him pay child support. My question is, will the state of Ohio push and make him pay it, where I do collect benefits?

Yes thank the Lord, they can. The states view is that although they’re helping you, the child’s father is still legally and morally financially responsible for them. Why should the state support the child and the father contribute nothing?

In Ohio collecting State benefits will require you to cooperate with the child support office...if you don't they will sanction benefits.

Some states do but if you put him on child support before for like $20 that will sometimes make it so they don’t fuss. Definitely varies by state.
