Stroller in the street. Rude or Necessary?

My neighborhood sidewalks are awful and every time I've tried walking with my baby in his stroller its a disaster. No matter how hard I try to navigate the bumps he gets jostled and can't sleep because he gets "bumped" awake. I'm wondering if I walk in the streets on the side of oncoming traffic is that considered rude? I don't want to piss off my neighbors, but I don't want to have to drive somewhere just to walk and it's way too warm to baby carry.

I walk on the road/street all the time but I live in a rural area with hardly any traffic. I make sure I’m walking AGAINST traffic and don’t wear headphones so I’m very aware of what’s going on around me. At the end of the day, convenience is nice, but safety for you and your baby is more important. Good job with wanting to get out and get some exercise and fresh air!

I would who cares what you neighbors think and if they say something tell them to fix their sidewalks and place a complaint with the city

We have a jogging stroller and I take our daughter for a 5 mile run every single morning. We are on the sidewalks 100% of the time regardless of how crappy the sidewalk is. It's flat out unsafe to be walking in the road with your child. They have sidewalks for a reason.

If your streets are wide enough that you're not in danger yourself or causing danger to cars (by making them cross into oncoming traffic to avoid you), I don't see an issue. I run with the jogger in the street around my neighborhood-- the streets are reasonably wide, there's not much traffic, & I stop/pull over/go onto the sidewalk if necessary for safety. & yes, you go AGAINST (FACING) traffic as a pedestrian so that you can see cars coming & react.
