Rock n Play warning

Cris

I know everyone loves it, and so did we, but I now understand why it’s not supposed to be used over night or for long periods of times.

My LO is 3 months old on the 12th and she loves sitting up and looking around. She can only lay down for so long before she gets bored. She has been a great sleeper since she was born and I always credited the rock and play. It was my favorite baby thing we got. She slept through the night in it, and only wakes up once, maybe twice. It was great! But the last couple of weeks I noticed her head was getting flat. She has a small head so I didn’t think it was getting that bad and now that she has great head control I thought it wouldn’t get worse because she spends most of her awake time with her head up. Either sitting down or on her tummy.

Well the last couple of days other family started noticing how bad it was getting and I knew it was getting worse. Not only was it getting worse but it was shaped exactly like the rock and play and how she lays in it.

So we went to her 3 month appointment today and sure enough the doctor notices right away and we have to go to a specialist for a helmet. It broke my heart but I saw it coming. Now my favorite thing we had that made life so easy, I want to throw away!

Because of the design of the rock and play, you shouldn’t lay them on their sides, only on their back. And because it has that hammock feel, where they are cradled and can’t move too much, babies don’t move around in it throughout the night. They are kind of stuck in the same position. And if you are like us and used it overnight, it can cause a flat head 😔.

Now we have to transition her to her crib (which isn’t a horrible idea) but I don’t ever want to leave her in the rock n play again.

So if you have this “miracle” baby product, please reconsider using it for extended periods of times. Naps are fine but not overnight anymore. This is all stuff I read before so I know it was my fault, but it really was only 1 out of every 50 reviews.
