Life jacket for 8 month old?

What kind of life jacket would be best for an 8 month old? And where can I find it? I’m worried about the ones with the pillow on the back because I seen the video where it basically dunks the face under. We’re going to Okoboji in a week and need something for when we go on the boat. TIA!

If you are going on a boat it needs to be coast guard approved, and you want to look for type ll instead of type lll (type lll is less bulky/more comfortable which is great for swimmers, but for babies, type ll is better as it is better designed to keep them face up if they fall in the water)

Just as someone else wrote, look for a coast guard approved pfd. This must have the “pillow”, and a strap between the legs. Only these will turn a face down baby, face up. 
All others may not do this.

I haven't found a coast guard approved jacket from under 30lbs yet..

I did research on what to look for in a lifejacket myself when buying one for my 13 month old. In the end, I found one that met all the criteria at Walmart for like $10. The “pillow” on the back is one of the things you’re supposed to look for. Sounds like you just heard some horror stories.
