Tattoo for SO?

I have been thinking for quite some time now that I want to get a tattoo that represents my SO in some way. He’s my first true love and has helped me grow enormously as a person. Even if we break up, I still like the idea of having a part of him with me. He’s impacted my life in so may great ways and I can never thank him enough for the time we’d have spent together. Obviously it wouldn’t be anything like tattooing his name on my body, but more so a symbol that represents him and what he’s done for me. Say we break up and down the road I get into a new relationship. Would you think my next SO would be upset that I have a tattoo for someone in my past?

to me tattoos of a SO is a bad idea because nothing last forever & you’re not guaranteed anything in a relationship. since you are even thinking abt if you guys break up I don’t think you should get the tattoo because if this was someone you really seen as long term then there would be no “what if we break up” as a thought but I mean I do understand where your coming from by thinking abt that since like I said nothing last forever. & me personally If I was dating someone w a tattoo of a ex it’d make me feel uncomfortable I prob wouldn’t even get involved with them😭 I wouldn’t wanna see that shit. I’m sure it’d make alot of guys feel uncomfortable as well.

Soooooooo my boyfriend got his for me after about 6-8 months of being together (because he is an idiot lol) and it was on a whim for him. Anyways. Another year, a deployment, and right before we got married I got mine! Ttc baby #1! He removed me from a horrible family situation and I love our tattoos. They mean a great deal to us. Even more to me when the navy takes him away time and time again. I know no one believed me when I said he was the one. But I have my own situation and you have yours. You do you.

You think you want a piece of him until you actually split up. Even if you leave him. Then you have this thing that you catch out of the corner of your eye (assuming it's something small) that makes you think of a shitty situation. I got matching tattoos with my EX-husband and I regret it all the time. They are each like a square inch and mine is on my foot so I don't even see it all the time. Every time I do though, I'm reminded that we were happy and I never knew he was lying and using me the whole time.
