Wrong Eye Prescription?

I've been going to the same eye doctor for years, but decided to make a change this year. My contact prescription was -8.50 and -8.75, so I'm pretty blind.
The new doctor prescribed me a -7.50 in both eyes. Within hours after getting my contacts, I was having headaches and called and told them I think I had the wrong prescription. The most he would come up on it is to a -7.75 as he is saying the previous doctor overcorrected me and I need to transition to a lesser prescription. But I never had issues before - I still can't see clearly and my head hurts. The doctor says give it 10 days. 
Who do I trust? I realize this is more of a technical question, but this doesn't make sense to me and I feel stuck. Ultimately I will consult another doctor if this doesn't clear up. Any ideas?

give yourself time to adjust like the dr advised. sometimes when you’ve been wearing a stronger prescription your eye muscles get used to trying hard to focus through that prescription. and when the prescription changes your eyes have to readjust to not trying so hard to focus through the wrong prescription. you’re getting headaches because your eye muscles are working hard. just give it a little more time.

Give it some time and if it doesn’t correct itself I would be getting a new prescription. I had to get glasses this year to drive and read and I got bad headaches until I adjusted to using them.

This sounds ass backwards to me. If you were overcorrected before, you would've noticed. 10 days is a long time to deal with headaches and poor vision. I'd get a second (or third) opinion.

Having worked with an eye doctor before, I've seen quite a few over corrections from various doctors and we'd attempt to adjust them to the correct prescription.  But I don't remember many people actually being able to adjust and most went back to their original prescription.
I do agree you need to give it more than a few hours, but I also think that's a pretty large change.  If you can make it the ten days, great.  However, if you get to where you can't function, don't be afraid to call them back to insist on being seen.   Even though we tried to fit everyone with an accurate prescription, if they insisted they did better with their old prescription, we would give it to them.  
If you do end up deciding to go back with your old prescription however, I'd go back to your old doctor and let them know what the new one said.
