No-phone policy?
Should college professors be able to have a “no-phone” policy without exceptions?
So I have a class, and of course I know that profs hate when students are scrolling through social media or texting excessively while they’re lecturing. BUT this prof was passing out a worksheet and while she was, I checked my phone because I knew my mom texted me (who’s babysitting my son) and I wanted to know if something was wrong. She ONLY texts me when something is wrong, because she knows I’m in class. And this is the pic I got from her

With an explanation about how he’s been stumbling around since, and has an extreme lack of energy (which is super unusual) and she said he acted ready for a nap. I immediately replied to tell her not to let him nap yet, and to call his doctors office (she has privileges that I signed off on).
So to recap some, my prof was NOT lecturing at the moment, and everyone around my was just chatting until she finished passing out the papers to explain what we would do next. She walked by me and took my phone from my hand and kept it for the last 35 minutes of class. Which of course heightened my anxiety because I didn’t even get to reply. And then I had no idea what else happened.
I’ve never had a problem having my phone out before, it’s not an ongoing issue. I explained after class why I had it out and she said “I don’t care what reason, your phone is not to be out in my classroom” and I said that I can’t not have access to my phone when my son is hurt. She shrugged and said if she sees my phone again, she’ll report me to the president.
Was I wrong to think it was okay? Or is she wrong for not understanding?
** sorry if this isn’t controversial enough, I didn’t know where else it would fit **
