When someone claims to be locked out/needs to get in to an apartment or dorm building, do you let them in?

Mo

Read several articles about this after a guy on reddit said he was being called an asshole for not letting people into his dorm building. Sometimes he knew them, sometimes he didn’t. He said either way, if he knew them and they were locked out, it was their responsibility to be buzzed in or get an authority figure down there to let them in bc he never knew the real situation that led to them being not allowed in/locked out. Maybe, for example, they were kicked out of that dorm residence just a day ago and were now angry and trying to get back in.

So, the poll question says it all: Do you let them follow you in without uttering a word to them, do you just let them in after asking them their name/why they’re there, do you ignore them entirely, etc.

Bonus questions:

Does it make you mad when people let strangers into these kinds of buildings?

In following with this, what about schools? If you’re the kid and you see a person at the door claiming to be a parent who can’t get in because it’s locked, do you open the door or say sorry, I can’t?

Should this be more strictly enforced?

Do you always let delivery people or people of authority in as long as they’re in uniform?

Do you confront them if they try to sneakily follow you in?
