To date or not to date a guy with kid

I’ve been talking to this guy for a month now and he’s really really sweet. we have everything in common and he’s really really cute, once we got serious into each other we went on a date. He admitted to me having a toddler and I didn’t mind at all. I mean, everyone has a past before so it didn’t phase me. I went home excited to tell my mom about my date and she said she doesn’t approve of me dating a guy with a kid due to similar family issues. I’m completely torn and feel so heartbroken. I would hate to be in his shoes (with child) and some guy stop talking to me because of having child. I want more than anything for my mom to like him (ik she would) but I don’t like that I feel that I have to choose sides. Idk what to do nor say.
