Pregnancy after c-section

I just had a c-section 2 weeks ago and my doctor told me I need to wait a year to have another baby. So I’m assuming she meant at least one year to conceive again, meaning I can’t start TTC again til November 2019, not actually give birth. I was never told this about c-sections and I would’ve tried for a vaginal birth if I knew bc my husband is 45 and wanted to try again soon for baby #2 but too late now so I have to focus on preventing pregnancy.

I’m a little nervous bc I got pregnant really easily and it seems it’s a safety issue if I got pregnant again right away due to risk of overstretched incision area.

What birth control is good to go on if I’m still breastfeeding (I know breastfeeding helps prevent pregnancy but not always...my mom and my grandma both got pregnant while breastfeeding!)
