I’m using Skyla, are you?

Sarah

Hello,

I’ve been on 3 different kinds of birth control for the past year and a half: the ring, the patch, and the pill. I had no problem with the pill until it was UTI time, which comes VERY frequently. Since I was scared that the pill wasn’t going to work with antibiotics I would just wait a whole 3 weeks to take my meds during the sugar pills. I never missed a pill or took any late pills, but I kept wanting to get an IUD. The pill made me gain some weight (I think?) plus the fact of a lot of hormones daily made me a little skeptical; I thought: maybe if I put it down there it just releases hormones where my reproductive system is, not my whole body. To me, it made more sense.

I cancelled about 10-20 appointments last minute. I kept getting scared all the time and the idea of having something down between my uterus and vagina was super scary. To see all the stories online was keeping me away yet ALL my college friends who had it said they never had complications and they love it...

So yesterday I got my period and said “fuck it. If there’s any appointments I’ll take them” and there was one, so I went right after school. I felt a HUGE cramp for about 3 sec and that was all the pain I felt. The reason it’s best and less painful to get it on your period is because

1) you’re most likely not pregnant (they still check though)

2) your cervix is already dilated

When I sat down though I cramped. Thankfully I have a high pain tolerance and I’ve been fine with the cramps, plus it’s my period time anyway. The nurses were kind of shocked when I just immediately got dressed and left like nothing happened? But everything was fine. Now, I’ve only had it for a little over 24 hrs, but what’s your experience with Skyla?

If it doesn’t work out for me or bothers me I will take it out in 1-2 months, but I hope this works and it doesn’t break, fall, embed, etc on me 😭

TIA ❤️
