Breastfeeding and weight loss?

Any STM’s who breastfed on here can you tell me if it helped you lose weight? I’m planning to breastfeed anyway but I hear some people say the pounds fell off whilst others say it made them gain weight!

Breastfeeding has helped me lose weight. I am 6 months pp and weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy. Breastfeeding can increase you appetite because you are burning extra calories, but if you make smart choices about what you eat you can lose weight. Don’t diet as that can reduce supply, just eat healthy food rather than a bunch of junk.

I'd say it helped the first several pounds fall off much quicker but overall I don't think it really helped me lose more than someone who didn't breastfeed. The biggest thing it helps do is shrink your uterus back down quicker (hence shrink your pregnant pooch). I'm really looking forward to breastfeeding again, it was a wonderful experience with my daughter. Good luck to you!

Its true but I believe it varies per person. It definitely helped with my mom and two cousins. They were shedding weight like crazy. My cousin said her daughter was sucking the life outta her lol

😂😂 I couldn’t lose weight breastfeeding despite the fact i cut my calories down to 1750. I ended up gaining weight. But I’m in my 30s and fat anyway so nothing I do helps, not even walking 3-4km a day. 😓

I am pregnant with my second, but with my first I lost weight from breastfeeding! I was never big to begin with. Prepregnancy 5’8 155lbs. Delivered 198. After BF for 14 months I’m down to 138lbs. I’ve been 138 since about 5months PP
