How to budget ?

Question

I need to start to save money ! I go to school for nursing. I also work at a hospital as a STNA. I would like to save money for maybe going on a trip in the summer also just to have extra money ! How do you guys budget ? I know  A lot of people budget different . I am open to anything since I would like to give this a try. Thanks!!💕

There are thousands of ways to save and make it fun. 
I love saving my $5 bills. I started in January last year and counted it up December 31st. I had managed to save $3005!! 
There are also some apps that can help you save without trying. I love an app called Acorns. It rounds up your change on every purchase and puts into a savings for you. The money is yours when you want to use it. 
If you aren’t comfortable using an app, Bank of America has a free checking/saving account for students and offer a program that is called keep the change. Every time you swipe your debit card, it rounds the change up to the nearest dollar and deposits it into your account. The money can be taken out of your savings at any atm. 
Check out Pinterest, it has a lot of ways to save. Don’t forget change adds up when you use cash as well.

I have been using the cash envelope system for a few months now and it works amazingly for my family! The first step to budgeting is evaluating your expenses and see if there are places that you can cut back or cut out. Once you know where your income is going you can better evaluate if there are areas that you currently spend in that you would rather spend less or not at all. Our problem was eating out and impulse spending. Once we set a budget for those areas everything seemed to fall into place! Good luck!

I used to save cash in an envelope and not touch it, but that got harder to do once I had a car payment. Now I just either put like half of my paycheck in my savings or my tips in my savings each month. I didn’t do it for December just because it was an expensive month, but due the fact that I have been doing this, I wasn’t putting myself in a financially bad place by doing so. Idk what bank you gave, but with Bank of America, you can set “goals” in your savings. I made one for moving out and in with my boyfriend and I’m halfway there, but I also had help from my mom. Getting the other half in there is definitely going to take some time, but like we’re patient.

For me:
Every pay day x amount gets deposited into savings right away. I started with a smaller amount the first 2 or so months to make sure I had enough to cover the rest of my expenses then increased it.
I went through several months of transactions and categorized my expenses. I realized I was spending way too much on both groceries and eating out which led to a lot of food waste which is also money wasted. Now every payday I get cash out for groceries and going out. Money goes into envelopes and that’s my spending money for those 2 weeks for those 2 items. 
Last year I did a no spend January for non essential or household items. No clothes, no accessories, no books, etc. I actually carried it through the first 4 months of last year and will do it again this year. 
It’s old school but I still keep a checkbook register as well for transactions I don’t use cash for. I round up so if gas cost me $36.80 I put it in as $40. It provides an extra cushion and every few months I take that extra and move it into savings.
