Do you and your love Have to have things in common for your relationship to last?

I love him but how come it seems we had things in common when we meet or so I thought but can’t think of anything now?

Answer

We’ve been together for 2.5 years and we don’t have anything in common.
He grew up in Arizona and I divided my life between Virginia and Montana.
We don’t like the same foods or even types of foods (he prefers Spanish/Mexican food because his family is from Spain. I prefer southern comfort food).
We hate each other’s music. I listen to a little bit of everything written after 1990 (for the most part) and he loves 50s-60s rock and roll.
We play video games together (sometimes) but we have different tastes in games, for the most part.
He doesn’t like to stay up late, I’m nocturnal.
He’s a messy person, I’m really anal about the house and stuff.
He has no bad habits and I’m a smoking/drinking loser.
He loves gory police shows and crime tv and I prefer cooking shows or Disney movies.
I cuss too much and he didn’t cuss at all until we met.
I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t really think of anything. I feel as if we’re polar opposites 80-90% of the time but he’s my baby and the one thing we do share in common is the only thing we NEED to share in common. We love each other. We enjoy spending time together. We met working together and six months after that, he moved in with me. Ever since we’ve lived together, worked together. We spend pretty much every second of a day with each other.
Most recently, he went to work to make some more money and left me at home but not having stuff in comment hasn’t seemed to affect us.

Answer

You both need to have the same general lifestyle  (eg if one is a homebody and the other likes to party all the time, not likely to work), want the same things in life, and similar morals/ethics etc. Hobbies and such can be separate. It takes awhile to really get to know someone, so sometimes you'll discover that you don't have as much in common as you thought after getting to know the person.

It depends. Me and my ex had next to nothing in common and we ended up fighting a lot and broke up. But to be fair he was an asswhole who broke up with me because i wouldn't have sex with him because I was working on my mental health before I did anything that would cause me to become any worse
