Anyone filed bankruptcy?

Question

My fiancé is being sued and he went to a lawyer and recommended him to declare bankrupt , has anyone done it or has advice or how it works ?
Ps : I didn’t know what group to use .

Check out Dave Ramsey (google or podcast.) He recommends only filing bankruptcy as a very last resort. Of course a lawyer will recommend filing because they charge you a big fee to do so. 
Dave Ramsey has some specific steps to take to avoid it. You might also see if your local library has his book 'The Total Money Makeover.'

Yes, right before we got married. It cost (in MN) $2000. Best financial decision I made in my life. No more credit cards! I tried to do Dave Ramsey but I still couldn’t slim my bills and stuff. 
The only loans you keep are secured and student loans. I didn’t have much for assets either. My credit will be low for a few years but that’s okay—I don’t want to use credit! 
First, I went to a financial counselor offered for free through Lutheran Social Services. The bank should have some sort of recommendation of who to contact in your area. 
My lawyers were amazing and I learned a lot! It was a good experience, overall.

Filing bankruptcy will absolutely obliterate your credit for quite some time, I would really only consider it as a last resort. But talk to the lawyer and discuss your options. A lot of lawyers recommend against it if possible. My friend and her husband had to do it almost 10 years ago and they still can’t buy a house because their credit is in the toilet thanks to the bankruptcy

My dad filed for bankruptcy years ago... basically you can file bankruptcy to either reduce, eliminate, or restructure debt that you can’t afford to pay back. A judge will look over assets, income, amount of debt etc.... My dad’s credit took a hard nasty hit, but his debt was cleared and he was given a chance to “start over” in a way. Ask the lawyer all of your questions.
