So you're going to .. 
- Petition to have your last name changed 
- give the court a shit ton of personal information, and tell them it's because you want to have your life partners last name
- sign the petition, pay for it to get notorized. file it pay another fee to file a case hearing for your name change
- go to court on the day of your hearing, hopefully the judge will agree to your name change or you will have wasted a lot of time and money (I think it's fairly rare that they don't allow it, but it is still a possibility) 
- then youre going to publish your name change in the paper
- then you're going to have to provide proof of your publication to the clerk, spend more money on certified copies, then go wait in line at the vital records office for a new birth certificate with your new last name.. and not to mention you'll have to change your DL, SS card, passport, bank information, and so on... 
Just to avoid spending like $60 for a marriage certificate that you can go to the SS office and have your last name changed for free, and waste less time and money and save yourself a headache 🤷

That doesn't make sense...unless you wanted to go through an extensive court process, which seems like an unnecessary pain in the ass when you could just get married and show the social security office your marriage license.

That's not the same thing as marriage. It's not just a ring and a last name. It's legally binding yourself to someone. It would make absolutely no sense to give someone a ring and tell them they could have your last name but not legally marry them.

It’s amazing what men will do to avoid marriage but still keep you feeling committed to them when they’re not committing at all. Unless you just don’t want to get married or you don’t believe in marriage or whatever, don’t agree to a ring and a name change. I would be doing some fake marriage with any man. Honestly it just shows he doesn’t want to commit to you.

I would definitely NOT accept it 1. I HATE rings .2. I’m keeping my last name no matter what , that’s no questions ask even our daughter has my last name.
