Midwifery Led unit or Consultant Led unit ?

Just wondering anyone have their first baby ? I am FTM not sure much about all this . I don’t really like my midwife , all the appointment was like asking me the same question, when I ask something she was busy typing input the answer and quiet . I have to ask few times then she answer me . The worst is sometimes she even ask me ask my GP doctor . I always told myself cheer up you won’t see them after labour 😬 .

I'm consultant led due to a blood antibody.
If you don't have GD or develop any other complications you will more than likely be on the midwife unit.
They do tend to down grade you depending on your weight, but you can arrange a meeting with head of midwife unit and usually get permission to deliver on there.

Hello. I believe the vast majority of people have a midwife-led birth now. I think you can only have a consultant-led one if you are high risk or develop complications. I know what you mean about them just taking lots of the same info being frustrating but that’s just what they do at the booking appointment. They should probably be giving you some information and trying to answer your questions (there probably will always be things that your GP will have to advise you on though and that’s appropriate). You can always change your midwife if she’s your named one but most people now don’t have a named one so you may not even see her again. Even if she is your named one the chance of you seeing her for every appointment or her being at the birth isn’t that high. You can ask them to talk through what options are available to you though. You could ask to be on a labour ward where a Consultant will be around but I think you will still have all of your antenatal appointments with a midwife and you will still be looked after by a midwife at the birth if you are not high risk or having complications so it doesn’t make much difference. Statistically you’re less likely to end up with interventions or an unplanned C-Section if you’re not on the labour ward. I know it’s difficult to know what to go for but I would just ask your midwife or GP about what’s available and have a look at the stats and info online to help you choose :) x

I had mine in delivery suite (consultant led) because my waters broke at 36 weeks so I had to be on an antibiotic drip

Thank for all the replies , I have a list from my midwife appointment , at the list I have to choose either one . I don’t see the same midwife anyway . I am 44 considering high risk and have miscarriage 3 year ago . This is what I been told by one of the midwife . I will check with the midwife at next appointment . Thank !
