I have EWCM for about 3 days before my positive LH/OPK test. The day I get a positive test my mucus has dried up quite a bit and is almost completely gone the next day.

You will get ewcm before (0-4days) and after ovulation (2-4DPO) that is influenced by estrogen surges during your cycle. Obviously the primary surge before ovulation is the only fertile period. The one after is just a biproduct of the secondary surge that accompanies the rising progesterone during your luteal phase.
