What age can a child eat peanut butter?

My son is turning 1 on the 25th and I was wondering when he would get to experience a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? If I cut it into small bite sized squares? I know peanut butter can be a choking hazard because its sticky.

New research has been done on this. They now recommend introducing peanuts/peanut butter early (like 6 months) and often, in order to reduce the risk of developing a peanut allergy. You just have to do so carefully because it is sticky. There are various ways to introduce it safely. You can mix some in some breastmilk, bake some in some cookies, spread it very thin on a cracker, etc.

Peanut butter should have been introduced 6 months ago. It's best to introduce allergens right at the start of solids. The sooner you introduce it, the less likely they are to have an allergy to it. And you should never cut anything into small pieces as you've described. THAT is a choking hazard. Everything should always be cut up in long strips. Our daughter had a peanut butter sandwich at 6 months with no issues. It's also not a choking hazard unless you're giving them huge spoonfuls of it for whatever reason. Even at almost 2 years old, our daughter gets a thin layer of peanut butter and some jelly if she's wanting it that day. And then she always has a drink as well whether it's milk or water.

Whenever you introduce food you can. Just when you’re introducing something new, like peanut butter, make sure that’s the only thing you introduce new for a couple days so that way if there is a reaction then you know what it is from & offer small amounts
