Is the Maury show fake. Answer my follow up question in the comments pls

I’ve always figured it was completely scripted. I was just watching my recorded episode of Steve wilkos and when it went off I saw a glimpse of the Maury show. A mom was finding out if her deceased son was the father of a young woman’s baby. If the show is fake and is such a dramatic mess why would someone want to find out such important info like that on there? Or did they just completely lie about the possible father being dead for a better story line?
