My birth story ♥️😊 Positive induction ♥️
So, I decided that I was going to get an induction so my OB would be the one delivering since he was leaving for recertification three days before my due date which was April 6th. Nothing was wrong and actually...it was a good thing I did get induced. Being a first time Mom I was incredibly nervous and hoped I had made the right decision and in the end it was.
So, mom, hubby and I arrived at the hospital at 12 am Sunday morning on March 31st and got checked in in about an hour. Around 1:30ish is when they put the first dose of cytotec in and I was 1 cm dilated. Walked the halls for an hour and had some minor contractions then we went back to our room and I laid down for the remaining 2 hours. 3 comes along and my second dose was inserted and I was still 1 cm, but fully thinned. So I just decided to get as much sleep but I was to excited and nervous so I slept off and on. 6 comes along and my OB and my new nurse Tammy (She is absolutely amazing) come in and my OB says hi, gives a hug, we talk and laugh everything is great and then they break my water. That was the weirdest feeling EVER by the way lol. So after that, contractions slowly started and I contracted naturally for two hours simply because I wanted to beat my sister who contracted naturally for 1 hour before the epidural 😂😂 During this time though my son's heartrate would sometimes drop with contractions and eventually we were told that basically my placenta decided it did it's job and was basically done. But not completely. 8:30 am rolls around and I finally received the epidural which was an absolute GOD. SEND! It worked perfectly and I didn't feel a thing. I remember being told if I felt a contractions and I was like "wait what? I contracted?"
By around...12 I think I was about a 3 almost 4 cm dilated and was feeling a whole range if emotions. Mainly worry because of my son's heartrate. After some more monitoring of my baby's heartbeat and being told they could be a chance of a C-section, I was put on my left side with a peanut ball between my legs and oxygen. That seemed to have done the job because his heartrate wouldn't plummet which each contraction as much. (Side note lots of worried tears and eventually they believed his heartrate kept decreasing because he'd move away from the monitor and my placenta. So a mix of both) I stayed in that positio for the remaining 6 hours with pitocin being used very sparingly and carfully and when I reached 5 cm everything FLEW BY! I reached 10 cm in about 30-45 minutes and I was being told to watch for a lot of pressure..Never felt it and when Tammy came to check if I was dilated again she could see his head 😂 Whoops.
So, the peanut ball was removed, I began doing some practice pushing with my nurse which I was being told I was doing amazing. When my son's head was right there my OB came in, everything was set up and after a total 30 minutes of pushing, a small minor tear below a 1, Elijah Gabriel was born at 4:19 pm weighing a squishy yummy 6 pounds 9 ounces and 19 inches long 😍😍😍😊😊😊 In total from my water being broken and my son being born I was in labor for 10 hours. Negating the inducing part.
