I guess it depends on how many kids and how old they are and also what’s going on in your lives that might make things more busy. 
I watch my niece and nephew every year for a week while my sister goes on a work holiday and she might only message every second day, and call maybe once. 
But she knows I’ve got things under control and as a single mum she needs a break. 
If it was my partner going away and we had young kids, I’d expect him to call. BUT we talk every night and text all day if we are apart now and we don’t have kids yet. So it would be a shock if he went away and the contact stopped. I’d be pretty damn worried about him. I’d be thinking he’s lying in a ditch somewhere taking his last breath.

Answer

I mean it’s a vacation from everything in life so I see that side of it. But I also see the side of having kids and calling to check on them. I wouldn’t expect it nor do it daily though.
