Will she be too bored in school?

Question

My youngest is to start kindergarten this fall. I have been trying to prepare her for kindergarten so she doesn’t have to struggle. She seems to have picked up on things pretty easily such as math. She can count to 20 and do simple math equations with addition and subtraction in the single digits. She has pretty good handwriting even compared to our older kids and she knows her alphabet but doesn’t always recognize letters and she still has a hard time remembering how to spell her name correctly. My husband says not to work too much on her or she will end up bored in school and could cause disturbances if she is bored. She is our wild child compared to the others. But I think that since she’s better with math and not so well with vocabulary and spelling that letting her excel at math will help take some pressure off of her in school and she will be able to focus more on her weaknesses. Can you prepare your child too much for school and make them bored and disruptive to the class?

My son has always been very advanced, especially in math and reading. He’s finishing second grade now and sometimes he does get bored and talks but he needs to learn how to handle easy situations along with the difficult ones. Our school is great and puts kids into groups based on skill set instead of just grade for each area. So say Tommy is really good at math but struggles with reading. Instead of having him in the same room all day with the same kids, he goes to one room for math with other kids at his skill level, and a different room for reading where he can get extra help. He could technically be in first grade but be doing second or third grade math and reading at a kindergarten level. It has been great for my son because he is in a pretty small group of kids who are at the top of their class and it’s easier for him to focus and be challenged since they all need to be challenged and aren’t waiting for other kids who maybe don’t catch on as quickly.

She's nowhere near "too prepared" for kindergarten 😂 this is all very standard knowledge that even a preschooler would/should know. I'd definitely work on learning her letters though. My daughter will be 2 at the end of the month and has no problems reciting the alphabet and correctly identifying letters. But your child has plenty to learn. She won't be bored in any way.

She won't be bored.  In fact, it is easier for the teacher when they come in knowing a little something. She will be able to apply what she knows in the classroom. I'm a PreK teacher, so we teach all that before kindergarten. My kids know their alphabet, numbers, letter sounds, simple equations, how to write one sentence, word families, and so on. Kindergarten, nowadays, is getting them to write sentences and do math problems. It helps tremendously when they know how to write their name, identify letters and their sounds, being able to write correctly and so on.
