Can I just drive up to the police

I live off the corner of the intersection. My family left the gate open and my dog is missing. I have gone in every direction looking for her and she had to go missing within the last hour. There are two cops parked on two sides of the intersection and I’m wondering if I can just drive up next to them and roll down my window and ask them if they have seen my dog or if they saw someone pick her up. They sit there for hours a day. I don’t know if I can approach them like that.

My dog is microchipped but there isn’t a way to track them with a microchip. I’m worried someone stole her

Edit: I found my dog. I didn’t have to go talk to them. She is okay, she went down the road into a neighborhood.
