Weight gain advice
Hello all,
First time mom here. So my pregnancy journey was a fairly complicated one, I have suffered from PCOS for years, and have a different sub type called “lean PCOS” where I don’t actually suffer from the weight gain portion like many other women. It took us a while to conceive and I’m happy to announce we are 32 weeks along with our first baby.
My question comes from my doctors recommendations to gain 25 lbs the entire pregnancy. I am about 5’6 and started out 130 lbs before conceiving. Before pregnancy I was very active, I lifted heavy weight in the gym 4-5 times a week and walked our dogs 2-3 times a week since I was initially trying to gain muscle.
At my 20 week scan I was diagnosed with placenta previa and put on pelvic rest and told not to work out as I was before. My job requires a lot of walking so I basically cut out all exercise except the walking from work at that point. Since then I have recently been re scanned and my placenta is not longer a previa, so my pelvic rest has been lifted.
However, given my gestational age and how long it took us to conceive, I am terrified to start working out again. My days off are spent trying to be active around the house but this trimester has really caused me to become tired and want to sleep a lot. I have gained 40 lbs thus far and still have 8 weeks to go. I almost dread going to the dr for check ups because every time she kind of makes a comment about watching my weight. I eat a fairly clean diet, with the exception of dinner, where we usually will grab take out. And I am drinking at least a half gallon to a gallon of water a day. I’m just so confused as to what to do. I’m terrified to begin working out again and I know dieting is not feasible with pregnancy. Baby is healthy and is in the 75% percentile. My weight gain is only in my breasts and stomach. Negative for pre eclampsia or GD and all of my labs have continued to be normal. Any advice would be appreciated, I’m not sure if I should be doing something different.
