Are you doing or did you do cord blood banking ?

So, my FIL in law passed away from cancer last year and he had to get some stem blood cell transplant (he was his own donor) after this I became sure that I would like to do cord Blood banking for my baby.  However after talking to my husband and reading about the subject, I’m not so sure it really gives many benefits.

Delayed cord clamping offers such huge benefits to baby immediately, that I’m doing that instead.

I was looking into it, but when I was reading the pamphlet, it was stated in studies that the cord blood ended up being more beneficial to a sibling than the actual child it came from. Something about genetics (I was in labor reading that, so I don’t recall much 😆). I didn’t think it was that worth it. And it would be a very large financial burden on my family to keep it.

The problem with it is that the shelf life of it is really short like 10 or 15 years. So if your child develops cancer (hopefully not obviously) then it could be used but it's not something that can be used to cure issues later in life. Or at least not currently anyway. We were going to initially but then made the decision that delayed cord clamping was our better option.

I actually consider about this since I found out that I’m a sickle cell carrier and it’s 50/50 chance my baby may get it or not but I hope to God he won’t have it and even if he does, this one will may save his life. I haven’t get around to talk to my doctor about this yet but I will next month. I believe it’s worth it!

I did delayed cord clamping and donated (not banked) the rest and plan to do this again with #2.
