Do you keep secrets from your fam?

Just curious. We're Italian. My grandma has 5 kids and each of them has their own little family... and today I just noticed how each of the little families have secrets they don't tell the "big" family like cousins aunts etc on purpose.
I just receive the infos and they're huge deals like sexual orientation, tattoos, escapades from home for a while, big debts (money), chronic illnesses. Noone knows ALL information but to me a family is sharing secrets (aunts and cousins included). Is it the same to you?

Not everyone is comfortable with everyone else knowing their business. And people certainly don't want to be the subject of gossip. It's totally normal! 
There should be a good balance of privacy. Not everyone needs to know everything but you also don't need to be hiding everything just to look good.

My family is full of incredibly judgmental hypocrites who will twist your words/actions.
So yeah there are things even my mother and siblings don't know.

Oh we definitely have our secrets. My family is dramatic and loves to talk so you dont tell them anything you wouldnt want the whole world knowing. 
His family is closer but still, we keep our secrets bc it's our life. Not theirs. None of their business.

My family isn't huge on sharing personal details, so we're naturally very private. My in laws though - they're thirty seconds from sharing their bowel movements with each other. I have to be very explicit with my husband about what he can and cannot tell his family because I just don't need them to know until I'm reading to tell them myself. Like today, I had an interview for a job but I'm so paranoid about not getting it that I didn't want him telling anyone about it beforehand because that will just lead to disappointment.

Most definitely. My family are the worst people in my life so they know almost nothing about me at this point. My coworkers know more than my own parents

Yes we keep secrets because my family is judgmental af. I'm also a strong believer in things not being anyone's business, especially if they're going to be nosey and judgmental. And you're saying that tattoos and sexual orientation, etc are huge deals? That's exactly the kind of thinking that keeps people in the closet smh. Don't be that person who tries to out someone or is overly nosey about sexual orientation.
