I wore shorts to the grocery store yesterday.

🌿

I know this probably sounds stupid, and you're like, "yeah, so? I wear shorts every day in the summer", but this is a really big deal to me.

I have not worn shorts in public in about 5 years. I wear them to bed and to lounge around the house, but I refuse to even step outside to get the mail with shorts on. I did wear them once two years ago, but my husband and I were going out of town, about an hour away, so the chances of seeing anyone I know was very slim.

I have terrible body image issues. I weigh about 50 lbs more than I should and I hate the way I look. I eat healthy and work out, but I have a hard time losing weight.

Not only do I hate the way I look, but after struggling with infertility for 3 years and going through a miscarriage, the hatred I have for my body has reached a whole new level. I look at my body and see a failure. My body is failing me, it is failing my husband, and it failed our baby. It won't do the one thing it is "meant" to do and the one thing I want it to do most. Not to mention, infertilityis the main cause of my weight gain.

No matter how hot it is outside, I always wear yoga pants or cropped leggings, and a t-shirt or even a hoodie. I try to cover as much as I can and wear loose fitting clothing. But yesterday we had this really bad heat wave, it was over 100° and all of my usual leggings were dirty. I didn't have time to do a load of laundry and had to go to the grocery store. I was digging through my closet and found the pair of shorts I wore two years ago. Without a second thought, I put them on and went to the store.

I can't say for certain this will be a frequent occurrence, but it was a huge accomplishment for me and a step in the right direction.
