Teething gel?

Is teething gel safe? My daughter is starting to hardcore teethe and she's miserable, my parents suggested teething gel but I've never really heard about it and something tells me it's probably not very safe? Help a momma out!

Teething gels used to contain benzocaine which was found to be dangerous for babies and young children. 
Most (if not all) the infant teething gels sold now are unmediated/benzocaine free, and simply provide a cooling sensation to soothe the pain. So those are safe, but honestly the safest option (and in my opinion most effective) is giving baby something safe to chew on like a cold wet wash cloth or teething toy.

I used the infant orajel the entire time my daughter was teething my doctor just told me follow the directions on the box. If you’re too worried about it Zarbee’s makes a natural gum gel that is supposed to soothe.
