When is the latest that it’s polite to send out invitations to your kid’s birthday party?

I was invited to a birthday party for our close friends’ kid one week before the event and I feel annoyed that they waited so long to plan a party for her. I grew up with a mom who is very type-A and an awesome party planner and host, so I wonder if my expectations are unreasonable.

4 weeks. When you wait till the last minute more people might not be able to attend.

I picked two weeks because of the word “polite” in the question. I don’t have a problem with getting the invite one week before the party but I think it’s best to leave more time than that so people have time to order a gift if they don’t want to get one locally or time to go shopping for a gift even if they have a busy schedule.

I do a month so that way if they need to request the day off, they can and are more likely to get to come

I can’t believe so many people are irritated by this. If I get an invite with short notice, I may not be able to attend, but it doesn’t irritate me in the slightest. You never know what people have going on in their lives, you don’t know why they didn’t give out invites earlier. 
I have far more important things going on in my life to worry about how much notice I get for kids parties 🤷🏼‍♀️

Eh, everyone in my circle works in the same industry so two weeks is fine for us, but I’ve also been invited to parties that were planned in 12 hours.lol neither bugs me.

For my daughters 3rd bday I put the invitations in my car and forgot to mail them 🤦🏼‍♀️ I ended up sending them out the week before I felt awful

I mean 3 weeks is probably preferred, I go usually a month before to be safe when I send mine. But you don’t know the parents circumstance. There’s so many variables, work, budget, life...shoot maybe they invited a bunch of people and hoped a later invite would cut down the rsvp’s. 🤷🏼‍♀️

If I don't get at least a month notice, it's probably not going to happen. I don't know if polite has anything to do with it, we just are busy and do a bunch of stuff and make the most of our time outside of work. If you don't plan ahead with us, we won't see you 🤷🏼‍♀️

If its anything less than 3 weeks id consider it a substitute invite meaning people they wanted cant come so they started inviting their back ups.
