Should I end it?

Question

So I’m a bit bipolar and I had a bad fight with my boyfriend where I slapped him and he slapped me, is this something I should move past because I started it or not!? I’m very confused and am considering moving back home half way across the country because of this. We were engaged young, we’re both in our early twenties.

You shouldn’t have hit him. If you’re going to hit someone, expect to be hit back. Stop using being bipolar as an excuse, no ones falling for it. Leave him, he deserves better.

Uhh yea you need to move on!!! Youre both abusive. You also need to get your emotions under control before you start another relationship or try to make this one work again. If you hit him once (or anyone else) then youll most likely do it again and you cant use your mental health as an excuse. He should've called the cops on you or left the relationship that very second. He was also wrong to hit back obviously.

This will probably anger people, but my boyfriend and I had these issues too in our early years. We sometimes went physical when we had big fights and slapped or pushed each other. Almost always started by me, because I was not able to control the extreme amount of emotions I experienced when things went bad (later learned I had ASD, which explains a lot, but it does not justify). I had no clue how to handle it. We were a lot more immature (18 and 19), and I still feel ashamed. That ended though, because we both matured, talked A LOT about it together, sometimes with a psychologist, and I learned to control this outbursts of emotion I could not place. We ‘grew out of it’ because we grew as a person and as a couple. It didn’t happen in over 10 years, because we’ve both became adults who use their head instead of acting impulsive and give in to a first reaction. We both love each other a lot. So no, it doesn’t automatically have to mean you both need to break up after you gave a slap to each other. Talking about it is important, though. Not letting it happen again too. One weak moment doesn’t automatically make you an agressive, abusive person. It can be a trigger that tells you you need to start working on how to vent your emotions. It’s not the right way to handle a fight, yeah, but everyone knows that. I guess a lot of people will not understand me and think I’m crazy, but that’s okay. I just wanted to tell what we’ve been through as a couple in our early years together, and it didn’t turn out to be a disaster.  I still talk about it with my psychologist from time to time because the shame sometimes returns, and she absolutely doesn’t think I’m a bad person. We grew, I grew, we both know it was absolutely wrong, and it never happened again because I learned what to do when the ‘emotion train’ hits. Never felt the urge again too. And again, not trying to justify it. I just wanted to say it doesn’t have to be the end of a relationship. You need to work on not letting that happen again.

PSA: bipolar is a real thing. You are not a “bit of it”. Please don’t abuse this diagnosis that many suffer with for real every day.
I wouldn’t get married, you don’t sound good for each other. Communication is lacking on both your parts. If you jump to being physical, please seek help from a therapist and/or anger management. That is never ok

If you really want to stay together you need to go to therapy or find some outlet for your emotions because "being a bit bipolar" is no excuse to get physically violent. He was wrong to hit you back but tbh if someone slapped me I'd probably slap them back automatically. Even if you do end it you still need to learn to control your emotions before entering another relationship.

Yes , physical violence isn’t ok . You did a wrong thing and he should have been mature and not hit you back . You both are 100% wrong . I also think you should seek therapy . Or both of you together if you want to work on your relationship.
